Freerunner

For this unit we will be learning to use a new program called unity, which is a program made up of various coding to easily allow you to create simple game enviroments and characters by only using few tools, after learning the basics we will move on to importing our new york rooftops into unity to enhance it and turn it into a fully playable freerunning level for a first or third person character to explore.

This is unity the program we are just beggining to learn it quite similar to maya so there was'nt too hard to get used to, to prepare us for the project we were asked to create a kind of tropical paradise island as a game enviroment, by creating simple mountains and hills etc. To then go on to texture them and add foliage amungst various other objects.

This is the current progress I have made to creating my small island, as you can see I have textured all of my surroundings, added a variety of foliage mountains hills and other imported things like water and grass, showing how easy it has been made in unity to construct a simple enviroment.

We have now started  work on our New York city rooftop project which we will convert into a unity file to eventually be played as a level, before doing this I have to first work more on my rooftop adding more buildings, textures etc.. and then im going to convert the maya file into an fbx file to be able to insert it as an object in unity from there  will be able to turn it into a playable level.

I have now finished all my texturing and have added all the nessecary objects i need to create this level, the next stage is to export this maya project as an fbx file to my desktop and then import all my assets into maya to be able to bring this rooftop, onto a plane field and then start to add any skyboxes, extra textures, enlargements and coding that needs to be done.

I have now completed all the nessecary modifications to be able to play my NYC rooftop as a level this includes: skyboxes, enlargements, texturing, coding and player controls. I like what I have done to change my previous version of the rooftop into what it is now, as with the different textures buildings and objects have really brought the rooftop to life, to make it look more realistic for whoever plays the level. However i do think that some improvements could be made mainly on the texturing and coding of certain objects as some of them are a little messed up and meddling with my scene, but this is something i can hopefully work on, the last stage i am going to do is create a video of a walkthrough of my level to finalise all my work.

This is my final preview for all the work I have done on the unity project as you can see ive made some useful changes from my previous version of the rooftop for the better, and overall I think I did a good job with some minor issues with texturing and coding, other than that I enjoyed the project and look forward to improving my work the next time.

Timelap

For this unit I will be creating a 3d space enviroment, based off of a period of time in history preferably a specific area monument or city that is somewhat well known or relatble to capture the essence of history this can be anything from the eiffel tower to egypt.

For ths unit I have chosen to recreate an egyptian temple and add various surroundings, I have picked this because the design of the temple really stood out to me and the general layout and design of egyptian pyramids temples and buildngs are very exquisite and beautiful the perfect place to recreate  into a 3d space

This is the temple I will be recreating, as you can see it has a some complicated elements to be able to build it however im confident I will be able to create this old historic piece of history using various techiques and modelling, along with this I will also be creating some surroundings to really bring the sense of egypt to life, this could range from pyramids to a mummies tomb, and more but i will be incorpirating this later on in the unit.

You can see my progress from the beggining as I started by creating the shell of the temple, and then begun to texture the outer layer of it, I then moved on to creating the pillar out of 3 different polygon shapes and went on to make it a whole object and texture the outside of it so that after I could duplicate the pillars to replicate the outside of the temple. I will now go on to texture the rest of it and start to design and texture the interior of it.

My temple model is now finished I just have a few more tweaks to make. I have made sure to replicate everything as best I can and used a variety of different functions to design included bump mapping to certian parts of the model to indent them in a way that will make it look more realistic, I am now going to incopirate another historic monumet into my scene, and I have decided that it's going to be a scale model of egyptian pyramids made in my own view however im going to try to add a pharaos tomb inside of it with a sarcophagus and a range of other objects to reacreate the sense of exploraton like its a real game.

I have now finished the modelling for the pyramids and pharaos tomb I started of by creating the model for the pyramid and textured it so that I could hollow out the inside of it for me to make the entrance to the tomb, after doing this I concentrated on making the layer for my sarcophagus, I made a simple model of what it would then took it into mudbox where I used the subdivision function to turn it into a cylindrical object and then lastly I painted a texture onto the model to make it look like a sarcophagus. All that was left after is to import it all back to maya where i could finish the tomb design and add in the rest of the objects.

Now that i have fiished my modelling it is time for me to import all my designs into unity where I can create the terrain, hills trees, syboxes, torches and indirect lighting, player models and the base texture, to create the gameplay and make sure everything is looking proffesional.

This is an overview of this whole project now that I have completed all my modelling, texturing, landscaping etc.. I have tried my best to add all the neccesary changes I need to get this as proffessional as possible this includes using a range of techniques and functions for maya and unity so I could build my landcape around the model, and really try to create that egyptian feel and scenery like in my source images, and I think I have done a good job trying to replicate and recreate this temple in my own vision. Now i will reccord and create a walkthrough of my map to finalise my work.

From the start of this unit I've needed a reliable resource to help me design the map and playing field this could range from a movie, clip, or game that is related to my project idea. And thanks to my previous game playing experience I already knew the perfect game, as I played it a lot when I was younger it is "Serious Sam The First Encounter" released on march 1st 2001 a first person shooter game based in the egyptian region and explores a variety of caves, ancient temples, and pyramids, which relates perfectly to my ideas and designs for the map, so thanks to this reference I will constantly have something to refer to if I ever get stuck or need help attempting to design somethng similar to the game.

This is my final presentation for this project, from the start I made sure to do research on the area I was trying to create and took a lot of source images that i could reference to for help with my designs. I had a game that influenced me to create my model the way it was, as its variety of buildings objects and textures really link to how i wanted to create the map, this project also required a lot of programs to be used in creating certain aspects of the map but it also required me to learn a few new techniques to help with the design of my model this included things like the edge verticie tool, and learning how to transfer bump mapping into unity along with various techniques I usually have to use in theese programs. All this research and referencing helped bring me to where I am now with this project complete and i am very happy with the outcome.
