NYC Rooftop Project

This is my first piece of work done on Maya. It was a small task to create an object using the polygon building blocks and then a subdivision button to change the object into more of a smooth and spherical shape.

This is the beginning of my research for the New york rooftop project. These are some of the images I have found to help me visualise an actual New York rooftop which is what these pictures show, great pictures of perfect settings for films and games etc. These pictures really bring out the small details you cannot usually see on a building.

These are the 3 screenshots from various movies set in New York showing the different types of ways you can experiment with types of cgi and completely change up the view of the city whether if it's to make it look better, or to cause destruction, it still looks amazing.

Lastly, I've combined images from 3 different games with action on rooftops and as you can see there are many variations to what kind of objects colour, lighting you can use when creating something like this. Obviously Mirrors Edge is one of the easier games to capture pictures from however I am going to use that for helping me to develop my ideas.

This is the beginning of my rooftop work on Maya so far. I have just used a simple placement of buildings which soon I will change up to look more professional, however I am starting to get the hang of the different functions of the program so creating fresh and new objects to place around my project will not be a problem. I am including any research and reference images to help me out.

This is an experimentation i did in maya using the new tools we learned about which is using various materials on the program, and playing with the material attributes to change the colour, transparency etc.. And im some cases you can add a specific preset in which the computer changes the attributes itself to make it look like a certain material.

This is another experiment i did in maya by using textures, in maya you are able to add various textures from the program, but you are also able to add your own as long as it is at a straight angle, so i took the texture you see off of a website and inserted it on to a simple polygon cube. And by using Uv's i can create a planar map which will enable me to be able to move the texture around so that it fits poperly. And by using bit mapping a representation, consisting of rows and columns of dots, of a graphics image in computer memory instead of doing it yourself and overusing the polygon count. And by using this technique i could use a bitmap of the same texture i used on the polygon cube to make the texture stand out even more.

As another test i made a simple sphere with some preset material backgrounds to show how bit mapping really looks on an object and this is one example, as you can see the sphere has a range of different dots and marks that can represent various things depending on what i want to do with it however this is just a simpler way of showing it.

These are some of my screenshots I took during the creation of my maya scene to show my progression as i started to create more objects and to texture them too.

The third and the seventh a mindblowing video created by Alex Roman showcasing various viewpoints of a range of different landmarks, in a way it's like a completly new style of visualisations because of the way he shows it in such amazing detail and quality its almost like your inthe video, which is what I think he attempts to do with this by using a variation of different landmarks to make the video stand out.

Unreal engine 4 is a different type of visualisation compared to some others like the third and the seventh, it still uses high quality landmarks, surroundings, and objects however the way the camera angles are set out and how it moves in a straight line. I also noticed it seemed like every seperate visualisation you saw was rushed just a little maybe because the landmark was too small.

This last Visualisation was actually quite interesting, a very short video however it tended to have some very cool camera movements and i liked the way it panned around the landmark which is meant to be an office the objects and surroudings were not as good as the third and the seventh or unreal engine 4, however i really enjoyed the last part where a series of cubes and other various objects came flooded in and destroyed most of the office, because i enjoyed the way he portrayed the boxes movements

This is my final project architectual visualisation for the New York maya project which portrays my personal depicment of a modern looking New York game enviroment, taking into account the various objects and visualisations a character would have to go through if this was a level, I like the design and layout of it and will enjoy proceeding to do further customisations to make it more realistic.
